Competitive advantage: significant reduction in installation work

“One genuine competitive advantage of our new outdoor storage system is that it comes completely prewired. On site, all the installer needs to do is build the foundations, insert the modules and connect the storage system, so the installation work is significantly reduced,” explains Simon Schandert, CTO and co-founder of Tesvolt. “This also prevents potential errors during installation and allows specialist partners to plan their time better.”

Storage systems for all applications – even simultaneously

“For many customers, it’s important that their storage system also work for future business models. With the TPS HV 80 E, they’re equipped for the future because they can use the system not only for peak shaving and self-consumption optimisation but also for more specialist requirements, such as control of charging stations and zero feed-in – and they can run various applications in parallel,” says Schandert.

The TPS HV 80 E is also suitable for ancillary services and arbitrage trading. This means that the storage system can be charged up from the utility grid at a cheap rate and discharged later when energy is expensive. “Prediction-based charging is sure to be of particular interest to customers with their own photovoltaic systems or dynamic electricity tariffs,” adds the Tesvolt founder.

Exceptionally efficient

Technologically, the new storage container is part of the proven E series, which Tesvolt launched a year ago. Like the rest of the E series, the TPS HV 80 E includes advanced Tesvolt battery modules – 22 cells of the latest-generation Samsung SDI for extra safety. The high energy density of the battery cells makes these storage systems exceptionally economical and space-saving, with a compact casing that measures 10 or 20 feet in length and a storage capacity ranging from 80 kWh to 1,280 kWh.

The TPS HV 80 E storage system also has a fully modular design – from the battery modules to the container – which makes it especially versatile. Customers can choose between two different energy management systems, while the Sunny Tripower Storage X three-phase battery inverter from SMA ensures super fast reaction and control times and a broad usable DC voltage range. The integrated air conditioning provides cooling or heating – depending on the weather – to ensure optimum performance.

Complete support for installation partners

Tesvolt offers its installation partners a full range of digital services – from storage configuration and ordering to commissioning and after-sales support. Partners can receive training on the system and configuration, as well as support with commissioning. Tesvolt also offers a hotline for personal consultation.

Tesvolt will be presenting the new container storage system at booth 110 in hall B2 from 19 to 21 June 2024.

Schiff liegt im Hafen

First German federal work vessel with pure electric drive

PRESS RELEASE – Lutherstadt Wittenberg, 04.03.2024

E-Spatz with Tesvolt technology wins award //

The Spatz, the tried and tested work vessel of the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV), was the first work vessel to be equipped with an electric drive. Tesvolt supplied the battery storage system for this and worked closely with shipping manufacturers to tailor the ship’s electric propulsion system to its needs. Now the “E-Spatz” has been awarded the title “Inland Ship of the Year”. In the coming years, 100 more work vessels in the Spatz fleet are to be equipped with zero-emission engines.

Press images are available here: https://www.tesvolt.com/en/press/e-spatz-is-barge-of-the-year.html

Flagship project for clean waterways and climate protection

“There is no alternative to the electrification of shipping on the path to cleaner waters and reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. Shipping’s potential to meet climate targets is still underestimated. In fact, there are many applications for electric drives in inland navigation,” says Michael Miebach, Business Development Manager Maritime Solutions at Tesvolt. The Hansa editorial team’s “Inland Ship of the Year” award honours not only the technological achievements of the E-Spatz but also the commitment and collaboration of all the companies involved and the WSV in this pioneering project.

To tailor electric ship propulsion to the needs of the E-Spatz, Tesvolt has worked with Kadlec & Brödlin, one of the oldest marine integrators, and with Jastram, a supplier of high-quality rudder propellers. All components for the propulsion system are perfectly coordinated with each other. The electrification of the Spatz was carried out by the Bolle shipyard from Saxony-Anhalt.

One charge is enough for three days

The work vessel with its innovative propulsion system ensures traffic safety on the rivers and canals of the west German canal network. Construction and maintenance work on the waterways is just as much a part of its duties as bearing work. Unlike its diesel-powered predecessor, the E-Spatz is powered solely by two 80 kW (109 hp) electric motors. The batteries have a capacity of 980 kWh. There are seven water-cooled battery modules with a capacity of 10 kWh each arranged in 14 racks. Each of the 98 modules is constantly monitored by the battery management system. This ensures that the temperature, state of charge and health of the built-in cells is always clear. The batteries are charged at night via a shore power cable connection with a maximum output of 125 A located at the rear of the E-Spatz. Depending on the type of work, the E-Spatz can be operated for up to three days on a single battery charge.

Launch of a future-oriented fleet

With more than 600 vessels, WSV is the largest inland shipowner in Germany. The WSV currently operates around 130 vessels of the Spatz class alone, which will be fitted with zero-emission propulsion systems in the future. The first E-Spatz marks the beginning of a new generation of environmentally friendly ships.

Maximum storage capacity in a small space

“A real advantage for our shipping customers is that our energy storage systems are considerably lighter than conventional ones, thanks to their high energy density of 6.5 kg per kWh. This is particularly important for ships, as it allows a higher-capacity battery storage system to be installed. This means that ships have a correspondingly longer range and can cover further distances electrically,” says Kilian Hoffmann, Business Development Manager for Maritime Solutions at Tesvolt. Tesvolt’s DNV-certified battery storage systems are also among the safest on the market thanks to their integrated fire suppression system.

Tesvolt battery storage systems are among the safest in Europe

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg, 20.11.2023:

New certificate confirms electrical and functional safety +++ Tesvolt demands stricter safety tests for battery storage systems //

TÜV Rheinland has also taken a close look at the latest battery storage system generation from Tesvolt. The high-voltage storage systems TS HV 30 E, TS HV 50 E and TS HV 80 E passed the safety tests. Tesvolt is one of the few manufacturers on the market that can verify the safety of its energy storage systems for commerce and industry with certification from the independent testing institute. The IEC 62619 certification confirms both the electrical and functional safety of Tesvolt’s products, which are available throughout Europe.

Press images: https://www.tesvolt.com/en/press/tesvolt-battery-storage-systems-are-among-the-safest-in-europe.html

Catch-up work is required in the storage system industry

“Unfortunately, product safety testing is not yet a matter of course within the storage system industry. Numerous manufacturers economise with regard to certificates and more comprehensive safety testing,” reports Roman Brück, Head of the Components, Power Electronics and Certification Department at TÜV Rheinland. “Tesvolt, on the other hand, takes the subject of safety very seriously. We were involved right from the start of development and took a very close look at the new storage system series – in other words, in addition to testing functional and electrical safety, we also carried out fire tests, abuse tests and combination tests which check the interaction of the individual components.”

Tesvolt demands safety tests for all manufacturers

“I think that all companies are under pressure to optimise their costs. Globalisation and the current economic situation have certainly played a part in this. With the rapidly increasing number of manufacturers, particularly from China, there are some who unfortunately make cutbacks in areas where it is not immediately noticeable. For example, regarding voluntary certification and testing or in the quality and durability of individual components,” explains Simon Schandert, co-founder and CTO at Tesvolt. “However, safety must always be given top priority.”

Tesvolt, together with other quality manufacturers in bodies such as the German Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES), is thus campaigning for additional certification and testing to be made mandatory for all manufacturers.

Multi-stage safety concept

Tesvolt pursues a multi-stage safety concept. The company carries out partially automated complete cyclic conditioning at its production site in Lutherstadt Wittenberg: Every battery module is fully charged and discharged and tested for any irregularities with regard to temperature, voltage and internal resistance. Finally, fully automated end-of-line inspections ensure maximum safety, with every battery cell tested and less efficient battery modules automatically removed.

All Tesvolt energy storage systems are also designed with multiple in-built safety features. The battery cells are subject to six safety mechanisms. For example, a safety fuse will interrupt the electrical current if the unit experiences a short circuit or overcurrent. In the event of excess pressure, a safety valve on the cell opens in order to ensure that pressure compensation takes place. A sturdy aluminium housing protects every cell from mechanical damage.

Tesvolt’s A and E series battery storage systems are tested in accordance with the international IEC standards: 62619, 62620, 61000, 61010, 61508 and UN38.3. Tesvolt is also certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 for successful implementation of quality management throughout the company.

The TS HV 30-80 E series battery storage systems are certified for all European countries. Certification for the UK is expected to follow in the first quarter of 2024.

You can find more information about Tesvolt’s safety concept here.

18.3 MWh: Tesvolt and Green Energy 3000 are expanding their collaboration

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg, 07.08.2023:

//

The international project developer Green Energy 3000 and Tesvolt, one of the innovation and market leaders for commercial and industrial energy storage solutions, are continuing their collaboration with the launch of their fourth joint project. This involves deployment of Tesvolt battery containers in a new solar farm near Braunschweig, Northern Germany. The solar farm will supply green electricity to around 5,000 households, while simultaneously reducing the load on the utility grid.

Pressebilder finden Sie hier: https://www.tesvolt.com/de/presse/tesvolt-und-green-energy-3000-bauen-zusammenarbeit-aus.html

Four solar farms with a total of 18.3 MWh

The fourth joint battery storage system project will see Tesvolt deliver two TPS-E storage containers with a total of 10 MWh of energy and 4 MW of output to Gardessen, near Braunschweig in Lower Saxony. The storage containers are to be connected to a solar farm with an output of 12 MWp. Pairing photovoltaics with a battery storage system helps create a more reliable and clima-friendly energy supply in the region. The project is being funded by the government as part of its innovation tendering scheme with which the German federal government regularly puts funded quantities of renewable energy production out for tender.

Tesvolt and Green Energy 3000 have already launched three similar projects within Germany over the past two years: battery storage systems totalling 8.3 MWh have been connected to solar farms in Saxony’s Großschirma, Brandenburg’s Maulbeerwalde and Bavaria’s Schnaittenbach. When combined with the current project, this means that the two partners have added a total of around 18.3 MWh in storage capacity to the utility grid.

The ban on bidirectional charging must be lifted

The battery storage system is not just intended to reduce the load on the utility grid; the energy it stores is also sold via arbitrage transactions, for instance, or via participation in the operating reserve markets.

Legislators need to take action to ensure the innovation tender remains an appealing tool for project owners. The current stipulation that battery storage systems are not allowed to store electricity from the grid, i.e. that they cannot run bidirectionally, must be changed as a matter of urgency. This is the only way for the available storage capacity to be used to full effect,” says Philipp Schreiber, project manager for large-scale storage systems at Tesvolt. “This would also add a clear additional incentive for investing in energy storage, as operators would be able to boost their profits by selling their storage capacity. In turn, this would quieten demand from project developers for get higher feed-in tariffs.

A stable supply of green energy

We’re delighted to be continuing our brilliant partnership with Green Energy 3000,” says Simon Schandert, Tesvolt’s CTO. “With our expertise in battery storage systems and Green Energy 3000’s project development know-how, we’re jointly contributing to a sustainable energy supply and showing the way toward the energy transition.

We managed to technically optimise the projects through our constructive collaboration with Tesvolt, which continued after the battery storage system had been commissioned. The partnership between Green Energy 3000 and Tesvolt has now proved its worth and delivered a wealth of valuable insights for both parties,” says Andreas Renker, CEO at Green Energy 3000.

Durable and specialised in ancillary services

Tesvolt’s TPS-E battery container boasts high energy density in three different container sizes, 100% depth of discharge and a planned lifespan of 30 years. Thanks to Tesvolt’s intelligent battery management system, the TPS-E stabilises the integration of renewable energy sources into the utility grid to enable a reliable supply of clean energy. The system can be adapted to any purpose – self-consumption optimisation, peak shaving, arbitrage trading on spot markets or the provision of operating reserves.

Tesvolt presents storage solutions for special safety requirements

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg, 30.05.2023

//

At this year’s smarter E Europe trade fair in Munich, Tesvolt has joined with Denios to present an all-in-one solution that combines a battery storage system and fire protection – the only one of its kind in the world. The Power Safe product line also meets the most stringent safety requirements in commercial and industrial settings, for example in operations located in water conservation areas or regions that are at a risk of forest fires, or as required by some insurers. Products in this line feature cases offering F90 fire resistance rating and are available in various sizes, from small-scale 80-kWh solutions to large energy storage systems with several megawatt hours.

Press images are available here: https://www.tesvolt.com/en/press/tesvolt-presents-storage-solutions-for-special-safety-requirements.html

Sophisticated fire protection case for extreme requirements

“For years now we have been engaged with the safe storage and handling of hazardous materials. Tesvolt not only has high-performance, durable storage systems, it also has some of the safest battery storage technologies on the market. However, in some cases, safety requirements are particularly strict, for example in countries with special environmental regulations or specific requirements from insurers,” explains Markus Boberg, Business Development Manager at Denios. “Now we have joined together to develop a technical solution that can meet the strictest safety requirements, by enclosing the battery storage system within an additional fire safety case.”

Proof of safety for public authorities

In the Power Safe product line, storage systems come in a spatial system with dual-frame construction classified as REI 90 or REI 120 fire protection. It can withstand fire, either internal or external, for at least 90 minutes, fulfilling the standards for safety certification demanded by approval authorities and greatly reducing complex approval processes. This safety certification also allows the system to be installed without a minimum clearance between it and adjacent buildings. Moreover, Denios offers round-the-clock remote monitoring and will alert the operator immediately in the event of a problem with the system. An aerosol-based extinguishing system is also available for the spatial system.

Certified safety

“Tesvolt storage systems already fulfil particularly stringent safety requirements. We have a multi-level safety concept and our storage systems are certified by the testing institute TÜV Rheinland. I am particularly pleased that we can now also offer our commercial customers a technical solution for highly sensitive environments. With this we have cleared yet another hurdle on the path to universal availability of clean energy,” says Simon Schandert, CTO and Co-Founder of Tesvolt.
The exceptionally high safety levels of Tesvolt storage systems are driven partly by the design of the battery cells: prismatic cells are considered to be the safest lithium-ion cells. At the system level, Tesvolt’s battery management system also monitors the voltage of each individual cell. This means the whole system is subject to constant plausibility monitoring. If the normalised range is exceeded, the system automatically switches to a safe state.
Power Safe spatial systems with fire protection come with European Technical Assessment (ETA) and associated CE labelling. This offers enhanced planning and legal security for country-specific approval processes.

Tesvolt at smarter E

Power Safe battery storage systems are primarily sold through Denios, but on request they can also be processed through Tesvolt.
At the ees / The smarter E Europe trade fair in Munich, Tesvolt is exhibiting the new Power Safe storage systems at stand B2 110 from 14 to 16 June.

Tesvolt Introduces New Battery Storage Systems for Commercial Use

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg, 15.03.2023:

Tesvolt presents its new generation of battery storage systems TS HV 30-80 E, offering even better options for variation and, for the first time, a 10-year guarantee for system and performance. The new products are optimised for the needs of commercial enterprises – from small bakeries to large manufacturing companies – and allow for exceptionally high levels of safety and durability. From system configuration and commissioning to after-sales support, installers have full digital access to all services.

Press picture find here tesvolt.com/en/press/tesvolt-introduces-new-battery-storage-systems-for-commercial-use.html

The new generation of storage systems consists of the TS HV 30 E, the TS HV 50 E, and the TS HV 80 E. The efficient high-voltage storage units are easily scalable. Combined, they achieve a total energy of up to 5 megawatt hours. The new three energy storage systems also incorporate advanced Tesvolt battery modules, each with 22 Samsung SDI cells of the latest generation. The high energy density of the battery cells makes these storage systems especially economical. New features include the Sunny Tripower Storage X three-phase battery inverter from SMA, which ensures even faster reaction and control times as well as a broad usable DC voltage range. And the energy storage systems can now be combined with two different energy management systems: the Basic or Pro model. Tesvolt offers a 10-year guarantee for system and performance with the new storage systems.

Future-proof business models by virtue of multi-use capability

“Our new generation of battery storage incorporates all the knowledge we have gained from almost a decade of experience in developing energy storage systems for commerce and industry,” explains Simon Schandert, CTO and Co-Founder at Tesvolt. The new storage systems can adapt even more effectively to the individual preferences of commercial enterprises. That goes for standard applications such as self-consumption optimisation and peak shaving or for multiple applications running in parallel. “The multi-use functions enabled by our energy management system offer enormous potential. Tesvolt customers can combine almost all applications as needed, such as optimising self-consumption with simultaneous control of generators and consumers. Or the forecast-based charging of electric vehicles with concurrent zero feed-in, to give another example. In this way, it will be possible to realise applications and business models in the future that may not even exist yet,” Schandert adds.

Smart charging station control

The Pro model of the energy manager allows the user to control and prioritise up to 25 charging points. For example, customers could be granted prioritised access to parking spaces over employees. Another example is the capability to configurate a charging point in such a way that it uses only green electricity from a photovoltaic system.

Certified safety

The three new storage units, just like the preceding Tesvolt systems, will be certified by TÜV Rheinland for functional safety, among other things, making them among the safest on the market. These exceptionally high safety levels are driven partly by the design of the battery cells: prismatic cells are considered to be the safest lithium-ion cells. At a system level, Tesvolt’s battery management system monitors the voltage of each individual cell. The whole system is therefore subject to constant plausibility monitoring. In case the normalised range is exceeded, the system automatically switches to a safe state.

It’s all digital

Tesvolt offers its installation partners all services digitally. The installer can plan the storage system project, configure the storage system, and order it all online in the Partner Portal. The storage system can also be commissioned digitally; thus, the installer can simply scan the components on-site using QR codes. In the Partner Portal, every step is explained with “How to” videos, and personal advice is also available via the hotline.

Effective immediately, installers can access training on the new storage systems at any time in the Partner Portal under tesvolt.com/en/partner/become-a-partner.html

Tesvolt will be presenting the new generation of storage systems at the smarter E Europe trade fair in Munich, Germany, from 14 to 16 June, at booth B2 110.

An agile organisation: everyone can be an innovator at Tesvolt

“I believe that innovations are revolutionary ideas that make our world a better place. With many countries now seeking to gain independence from Russian gas imports, innovation in the field of renewable energies is more important than ever before,” commented Daniel Hannemann, Co-Founder and CEO of Tesvolt. “Most of the time, innovations are the result of spontaneous ideas – and then you need the courage and the right environment to transform ideas into marketable products. Anyone can be an innovator at Tesvolt thanks to our agile organisational structure. I am tremendously proud of our joint effort in becoming Innovator of the Year again.”

Tesvolt opted to implement an agile organisational structure four years ago. Since then, it has dispensed with classic hierarchies. All employees receive comprehensive training on the methods of the agile organisational structure. “At Tesvolt, decisions are made in the team – in line with an agile principle that rapidly leads to results. This approach works exceptionally well,” reported Tjorven Niels Graßnick, Corporate Agile Coach at Tesvolt. “All employees have also received company shares, which also promotes a climate of innovation.”

Technological innovation saves electricity costs

Tesvolt’s innovative energy management system (EMS) was also a crucial factor in the panel naming the Wittenberg-based company Innovator of the Year once more. The EMS captures the energy flows of all consumers and producers and controls them as efficiently as possible. This allows to combine a range of applications, such as optimised self-consumption and intelligent peak shaving. Previously, operators had to choose one of the possible uses in advance. So the energy storage system adapts better to the individual requirements of commercial and industrial uses and thus saves even more electricity costs.

Scientific selection procedure

The TOP 100 innovation competition is based on a scientific selection procedure. Prof. Nikolaus Franke (one of the world’s leading innovation researchers, with 25 research awards to his name) and his team compared 436 SMEs based on more than 100 innovation indicators. They scrutinised the climate of innovation and the management team’s willingness to promote innovation, and the success of the resulting products on the market. The expert panel used this analysis to choose the winners. The panel is made up of experts from business, academia, the media and politics – including the likes of consultant Roland Berger and politician Gregor Gysi. The competition’s project partners are the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research and the German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (BVMW).

“The competition was very strong again this year and it was impressive to see how innovative SMEs have dealt with the changes and challenges of our time. From the large amount of applicants, we determined the best“, said Prof. Nikolaus Franke, scientific director of the contest. The jury awarded Tesvolt the top grade of A+ in the four categories of Innovation Promoting Top Management, Innovation Climate, Innovative Processes & Organisation and External Orientation.

Tesvolt to showcase new series of energy storage systems at The smarter E

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg, 02.05.2022:

Higher energy density and economic efficiency //

Tesvolt will present its new series of energy storage systems designed for commercial and industrial use at ees Europe in Munich, Germany. The new battery storage systems are set apart by their higher energy density and particularly high economic efficiency. The E series is Tesvolt’s response to the global shortage of chips in energy storage systems; the new systems are configured to use 80% fewer chips. This allows the manufacturer to produce its battery storage system solutions in larger batches and meet the skyrocketing demand for commercial storage systems.

Commerce looking for independent energy supply

With electricity costs so high at the moment, many commercial companies are currently struggling to survive, and they want to achieve independence with their own photovoltaic installation and energy storage system, for example. We have also seen this development reflected in the demand for our storage systems, which has increased enormously in recent weeks,“,reported Daniel Hannemann, Co-Founder and CEO of Tesvolt. „Because the E series uses fewer chips, we can produce it in much larger batches – and help more commercial operations switch to an independent power supply.

Optimised and streamlined for economic efficiency

In both purchasing and operations, the storage systems in the E series cost less than the existing A series, due in part to the fact that the new battery modules, which can store almost 70% more energy, are arranged more compactly. The E series also uses the latest-generation Samsung SDI lithium-ion cells, making it even more powerful and robust. This gives the overall system an efficiency rating of over 90 percent – significantly higher than that of conventional energy storage systems on the market.

Suitable for any application

The storage systems in the E series meet the same quality criteria as the A series, but higher energy density and an optimised design mean we can produce them in larger quantities,“, explains Simon Schandert, Co-Founder and CTO of Tesvolt. „The E series is available in different product variants too, so it offers the right battery storage system for every application.“ The storage systems in the E series shave peak loads, optimise self-consumption and supply back-up power. They function both on-grid and off-grid and are also very well suited as charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The capacity of the new energy storage system solutions ranges from 70 kilowatt hours to several megawatt hours.

Power quality technology increases machinery lifespans

The quality of the electricity is another thing that’s important to many commercial and industrial operations, because it improves machines’ durability. That’s why we’ve integrated our power quality technology in both the TS-I HV 80 E and TS-I HV 100 E. It ensures good, consistent electricity quality – giving us a genuine USP on the market“, affirmed Mr Schandert. An active grid filter stabilises voltage and frequency, all the while reducing load imbalance, reactive power and harmonics in the commercial operation’s utility grid.

Market reacts to energy crisis – sharp increase in demand for Tesvolt energy storage systems

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg/Germany, 11 April 2022:

Tesvolt, one of the world’s leading producers of energy storage technology for the commercial and industrial sectors, is currently experiencing a sharp increase in the demand for its battery storage systems that significantly exceed long-term growth trends. Against the backdrop of dramatic increases in oil and gas prices, Tesvolt’s order volume has seen a rapid increase over recent weeks and, in March 2022, peaked at 195% over that of the previous year.

You can find press images here: https://www.tesvolt.com/de/presse/markt-reagiert-auf-energiekrise-nachfrage-nach-tesvolt-stromspeichern-steigt-deutlich.html

Daniel Hannemann, Tesvolt CEO and co-founder: „The tragic events in Ukraine are showing just how much the industrial sector depends on Russian oil and gas. This vast surge in orders highlights that increasingly more companies are now looking to quickly and permanently reduce their dependency on fossil fuels. In order to do so, we need to effectively couple renewable energy generation systems with decentralised energy storage solutions.

Currently, demand for commercial energy storage systems has drastically surged, particularly from Western Europe. The move towards replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy and suitable storage systems is especially strong among medium-sized businesses. The key drivers behind this development are the high fuel prices and the expansion of the charging infrastructure.

Daniel Hannemann: „Efficient storage and use of renewable energy is the most important requirement for becoming independent of oil and gas in the long term – and for achieving the ecologically necessary energy transition. This has become increasingly more evident in recent weeks in the European economy, and it is now up to our sector to provide first-rate solutions for meeting this demand quickly and comprehensively. And this is precisely what we are investing in.
