The new generation of storage systems consists of the TS HV 30 E, the TS HV 50 E, and the TS HV 80 E. The efficient high-voltage storage units are easily scalable. Combined, they achieve a total energy of up to 5 megawatt hours. The new three energy storage systems also incorporate advanced Tesvolt battery modules, each with 22 Samsung SDI cells of the latest generation. The high energy density of the battery cells makes these storage systems especially economical. New features include the Sunny Tripower Storage X three-phase battery inverter from SMA, which ensures even faster reaction and control times as well as a broad usable DC voltage range. And the energy storage systems can now be combined with two different energy management systems: the Basic or Pro model. Tesvolt offers a 10-year guarantee for system and performance with the new storage systems.

Future-proof business models by virtue of multi-use capability

“Our new generation of battery storage incorporates all the knowledge we have gained from almost a decade of experience in developing energy storage systems for commerce and industry,” explains Simon Schandert, CTO and Co-Founder at Tesvolt. The new storage systems can adapt even more effectively to the individual preferences of commercial enterprises. That goes for standard applications such as self-consumption optimisation and peak shaving or for multiple applications running in parallel. “The multi-use functions enabled by our energy management system offer enormous potential. Tesvolt customers can combine almost all applications as needed, such as optimising self-consumption with simultaneous control of generators and consumers. Or the forecast-based charging of electric vehicles with concurrent zero feed-in, to give another example. In this way, it will be possible to realise applications and business models in the future that may not even exist yet,” Schandert adds.

Smart charging station control

The Pro model of the energy manager allows the user to control and prioritise up to 25 charging points. For example, customers could be granted prioritised access to parking spaces over employees. Another example is the capability to configurate a charging point in such a way that it uses only green electricity from a photovoltaic system.

Certified safety

The three new storage units, just like the preceding Tesvolt systems, will be certified by TÜV Rheinland for functional safety, among other things, making them among the safest on the market. These exceptionally high safety levels are driven partly by the design of the battery cells: prismatic cells are considered to be the safest lithium-ion cells. At a system level, Tesvolt’s battery management system monitors the voltage of each individual cell. The whole system is therefore subject to constant plausibility monitoring. In case the normalised range is exceeded, the system automatically switches to a safe state.

It’s all digital

Tesvolt offers its installation partners all services digitally. The installer can plan the storage system project, configure the storage system, and order it all online in the Partner Portal. The storage system can also be commissioned digitally; thus, the installer can simply scan the components on-site using QR codes. In the Partner Portal, every step is explained with “How to” videos, and personal advice is also available via the hotline.

Effective immediately, installers can access training on the new storage systems at any time in the Partner Portal under tesvolt.com/en/partner/become-a-partner.html

Tesvolt will be presenting the new generation of storage systems at the smarter E Europe trade fair in Munich, Germany, from 14 to 16 June, at booth B2 110.

VARTA research bets on AI to achieve longer battery storage lifespan

PRESS RELEASE – Nördlingen, 20.02.2023:

Together with three renowned partners, German battery specialist VARTA is developing a battery management system based on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). The research project, entitled “Longer,” aims to map the typical operating modes of home storage systems and their effect on batteries more precisely than existing software. This will allow the use of available battery capacity to be optimized, while at the same time conserving the battery. The partners’ goal is to achieve a longer battery life, decrease the material input needed, and reduce CO2 emissions at a lower cost.

Pressebilder: https://sunbeam-communications.com/en/varta-research-bets-on-ai-to-achieve-longer-battery-storage-lifespan-2/

The company launches a joint project with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, NOVUM engineering GmbH, and TWT GmbH Science & Innovation

Research Coordinator at VARTA Storage Benjamin Achzet explained: “Home battery storage systems, today, typically complete 200 to 300 full charge cycles per year and are used almost exclusively to store solar power. In the future, home storage will also be able to act as an ‘electricity trader,’ thus further reducing energy costs and actively relieving the power grid.”

This will require storage systems with higher cycle stability, however. The Longer research project, which will run until the end of 2025, is intended to help prepare storage systems for such new tasks. With VARTA Storage as its coordinator, the project also has support from Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, NOVUM engineering, and TWT Science & Innovation.

AI to model individual battery aging

How battery storage systems age depends heavily on the number and depth of charging cycles, but also on a variety of other factors, including charging and discharging power as well as ambient temperature. Because both the processes within the battery and user behavior are very complex, aging is difficult to estimate using conventional methods. It has to be examined on an individual basis.

Through the Longer project, VARTA is using AI, together with machine learning, to develop models of user behavior and battery aging. To this end, programs are being implemented on field test devices of the VARTA.wall home storage system.

A new generation of individualized battery management

The AI is expected not only precisely to analyze load profiles in buildings, but also to learn how the battery should best be discharged or charged in any given situation, in order to operate more efficiently over time. “In the field trial, the AI independently learns how a particular load profile affects the battery, its state-of-heath. Over time, it will be able to predict the state-of-health, then allowing for predictive control,” said Jens Haupt, NOVUM engineering battery aging specialist. Such AI-based battery management will thus be able to make optimal use of the battery’s capacity, while also maximizing its service life.

Simulation models of storage facilities will be used in the Longer research, too, to test and validate the AI-based operating strategy efficiently, in a targeted manner. “Efficient simulation methods – or digital twins – not only allow validation in reasonable time frames, but also the testing of borderline scenarios that are otherwise costly to realize in the laboratory,” explained Alejandro Cárdenas, simulation expert at TWT Science & Innovation.

Instead of following fixed rules, AI finds the best strategy for each use case. “Typical yield and consumption patterns are already known to the AI and it constantly refines them through machine learning. This way, each home gets its own customized energy and battery management. Depending on personal preferences, it maximizes self-consumption, minimizes CO2 emissions, or optimizes for profitability,” added Arne Groß, Fraunhofer ISE software expert.

Through the research, the AI is to be used in storage devices produced by VARTA, which intends to deploy the technology to continuously improve its batteries. The company’s ultimate stated goal is to be able to offer a storage device with a lifetime warranty.

aleo presents new premium panel for Swiss Solrif solar roof tiles

PRESS RELEASE –  Prenzlau/Hedingen, 2.8.2022:

The premium panels in aleo’s new LEO series are also available as solar roof tiles. With LEO Sol, aleo is launching a high-performance half-cell panel. LEO Sol can be integrated into the roof surface using the Solrif in-roof photovoltaic mounting system from Ernst Schweizer AG. The glass-foil panel with black back sheet is larger and higher-yielding than its predecessors. When mounting with Solrif, the classic roof tile is replaced by the solar roof tile, creating a high-quality and homogenous appearance on the roof.

You can find a press image here: www.aleo-solar.com/newsitem/aleo-presents-new-premium-panel-for-swiss-solrif-solar-roof-tiles/

New efficiency class for proven system

The new monocrystalline premium panel LEO Sol with a size of 1,169 mm x 1,607 mm x 17 mm and a peak output of 345 W consists of 96 half cells. By using half-cells with 10 busbars, aleo minimises the series resistance and thus maximises the efficiency of its LEO premium panel. Instead of flat wire, thin, round wires are used so that more light hits the cells. The division of the cells and the closely spaced busbars also ensure that the panles last longer, as additional current paths are created.

With the Solrif in-roof PV mounting system from Ernst Schweizer, which has been tried and tested for over 20 years, LEO Sol is laid overlapping and tension-free on the pitched roof instead of being clamped. The solar roof tile is laid directly on the supporting battens just like conventional clay roof tiles. In addition to partial roofs, full roof coverings are also possible: Solrif blind modules offer design options for integrating corners and edges around chimneys, skylights or dormers homogeneously into the roof. Due to the free lower edge of the panels, the Solrif system is self-cleaning and requires virtually no maintenance.

Simple planning, comprehensive testing

The planning software Solar.Pro.Tool from Schweizer allows the system configuration with LEO Sol to be planned easily and, taking into account statics and electrics, safely. LEO Sol has been tested and certified as a hard roofing system for fire protection, is free of snail tracks and can withstand hailstones of up to 40 mm.

Solar aesthetics Made in Europe

With its uniform appearance, the solar roof tile Solrif is also suitable for use on listed buildings and for aesthetically demanding new construction and renovation projects. “As the global market leader in in-roof photovoltaic installation, we have particularly high demands on the performance and aesthetics of our solar roof tiles. Together with aleo and LEO Sol, we offer an in-roof PV solution that combines the latest technology with a chic look,” says Helge Hartwig, Sales Manager Solrif at Ernst Schweizer.

Quality as well as sustainability go hand in hand in the production of both system components: The premium panel LEO Sol is produced at aleo in Prenzlau using 100 percent renewable energy and comes with a product and performance guarantee of 25 years. Ernst Schweizer produces the Solrif mounting system with durable aluminium directly in Switzerland. Since the solar roof tile replaces the classic roof tile, both materials and work steps are saved during installation. And thanks to short transport routes within Europe, the LEO Sol-Solrif system combination causes fewer greenhouse emissions during delivery.

William Chen, CEO at aleo: “Our new LEO series is the most powerful that aleo has produced to date. The LEO Sol panel meets the high quality standards of the new series. The black back sheet completes the elegant look of the panel. Together with the Swiss mounting system Solrif, we are bringing a high-quality and sustainable in-roof photovoltaic solution `Made in Europe` to the market that is something to be proud of.”

Tesvolt wins leading innovation prize for SMEs again

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg/Germany, 27 June 2022:

The battery storage system manufacturer has been named “Innovator of the Year 2022” //

Tesvolt, manufacturer of energy storage systems for commerce and industry, has been named “Innovator of the Year” in the TOP 100 competition for the second time. It secured first place in its size category of 51 to 200 employees in this leading innovation contest for German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The 24-member expert panel was impressed by the outstanding climate of innovation and the innovative technology that underpins Tesvolt’s energy storage systems. The TOP 100 trophy was presented on Friday as part of the German SME Summit in Frankfurt am Main’s Jahrhunderthalle. This was the competition’s 29th instalment.

You can find press images here: https://www.tesvolt.com/en/press/tesvolt-wins-leading-innovation-prize-for-smes-again.html

An agile organisation: everyone can be an innovator at Tesvolt

“I believe that innovations are revolutionary ideas that make our world a better place. With many countries now seeking to gain independence from Russian gas imports, innovation in the field of renewable energies is more important than ever before,” commented Daniel Hannemann, Co-Founder and CEO of Tesvolt. “Most of the time, innovations are the result of spontaneous ideas – and then you need the courage and the right environment to transform ideas into marketable products. Anyone can be an innovator at Tesvolt thanks to our agile organisational structure. I am tremendously proud of our joint effort in becoming Innovator of the Year again.”

Tesvolt opted to implement an agile organisational structure four years ago. Since then, it has dispensed with classic hierarchies. All employees receive comprehensive training on the methods of the agile organisational structure. “At Tesvolt, decisions are made in the team – in line with an agile principle that rapidly leads to results. This approach works exceptionally well,” reported Tjorven Niels Graßnick, Corporate Agile Coach at Tesvolt. “All employees have also received company shares, which also promotes a climate of innovation.”

Technological innovation saves electricity costs

Tesvolt’s innovative energy management system (EMS) was also a crucial factor in the panel naming the Wittenberg-based company Innovator of the Year once more. The EMS captures the energy flows of all consumers and producers and controls them as efficiently as possible. This allows to combine a range of applications, such as optimised self-consumption and intelligent peak shaving. Previously, operators had to choose one of the possible uses in advance. So the energy storage system adapts better to the individual requirements of commercial and industrial uses and thus saves even more electricity costs.

Scientific selection procedure

The TOP 100 innovation competition is based on a scientific selection procedure. Prof. Nikolaus Franke (one of the world’s leading innovation researchers, with 25 research awards to his name) and his team compared 436 SMEs based on more than 100 innovation indicators. They scrutinised the climate of innovation and the management team’s willingness to promote innovation, and the success of the resulting products on the market. The expert panel used this analysis to choose the winners. The panel is made up of experts from business, academia, the media and politics – including the likes of consultant Roland Berger and politician Gregor Gysi. The competition’s project partners are the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research and the German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (BVMW).

“The competition was very strong again this year and it was impressive to see how innovative SMEs have dealt with the changes and challenges of our time. From the large amount of applicants, we determined the best“, said Prof. Nikolaus Franke, scientific director of the contest. The jury awarded Tesvolt the top grade of A+ in the four categories of Innovation Promoting Top Management, Innovation Climate, Innovative Processes & Organisation and External Orientation.

High efficiency and standby power compatibility

The new Steca hybrid inverter has a maximum efficiency of over 98 percent and outstanding partial load operation capability. Two MPP trackers enable flexible system design.

In combination with the optional StecaGrid switch, the device can shut off a home from the grid if there is a power failure and convert to standby power mode. This system solution ensures that the hybrid inverter supplies all three phases in the home grid, making it possible to continue to use all end devices without any problem.

Clever overall concept

With its passive cooling, the StecaGrid Hybrid 10023_3 is designed for particularly low-maintenance, low-noise operation: thanks to the ventilator-free design, the hybrid inverter is functional without any moving parts. As a result, defects are avoided, and no cleaning work is required. There is also no noise from fans. The integrated grid and system protection simplifies installation and reduces installation costs.

With our new hybrid inverter, we are delivering the right device for modern, energy-independent homes. With its high efficiency, ability to operate using standby power and simple installation, it is a typical example of the high quality of KATEK power electronics, with which we achieved an annual turnover growth of over 30 percent last year“, Klauspeter Bader, Managing Director of KATEK Memmingen, explains.

PRESS RELEASE – Wittenberg, 02.05.2022:

Higher energy density and economic efficiency //

Tesvolt will present its new series of energy storage systems designed for commercial and industrial use at ees Europe in Munich, Germany. The new battery storage systems are set apart by their higher energy density and particularly high economic efficiency. The E series is Tesvolt’s response to the global shortage of chips in energy storage systems; the new systems are configured to use 80% fewer chips. This allows the manufacturer to produce its battery storage system solutions in larger batches and meet the skyrocketing demand for commercial storage systems.

Commerce looking for independent energy supply

With electricity costs so high at the moment, many commercial companies are currently struggling to survive, and they want to achieve independence with their own photovoltaic installation and energy storage system, for example. We have also seen this development reflected in the demand for our storage systems, which has increased enormously in recent weeks,“,reported Daniel Hannemann, Co-Founder and CEO of Tesvolt. „Because the E series uses fewer chips, we can produce it in much larger batches – and help more commercial operations switch to an independent power supply.

Optimised and streamlined for economic efficiency

In both purchasing and operations, the storage systems in the E series cost less than the existing A series, due in part to the fact that the new battery modules, which can store almost 70% more energy, are arranged more compactly. The E series also uses the latest-generation Samsung SDI lithium-ion cells, making it even more powerful and robust. This gives the overall system an efficiency rating of over 90 percent – significantly higher than that of conventional energy storage systems on the market.

Suitable for any application

The storage systems in the E series meet the same quality criteria as the A series, but higher energy density and an optimised design mean we can produce them in larger quantities,“, explains Simon Schandert, Co-Founder and CTO of Tesvolt. „The E series is available in different product variants too, so it offers the right battery storage system for every application.“ The storage systems in the E series shave peak loads, optimise self-consumption and supply back-up power. They function both on-grid and off-grid and are also very well suited as charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The capacity of the new energy storage system solutions ranges from 70 kilowatt hours to several megawatt hours.

Power quality technology increases machinery lifespans

The quality of the electricity is another thing that’s important to many commercial and industrial operations, because it improves machines’ durability. That’s why we’ve integrated our power quality technology in both the TS-I HV 80 E and TS-I HV 100 E. It ensures good, consistent electricity quality – giving us a genuine USP on the market“, affirmed Mr Schandert. An active grid filter stabilises voltage and frequency, all the while reducing load imbalance, reactive power and harmonics in the commercial operation’s utility grid.

Intersolar: aleo presents new premium solar panels from the LEO series

PRESS RELEASE – Prenzlau, Germany, 22 April 2022:

leo solar is presenting its new LEO premium panel series at Intersolar. The solar panels will be available as glass-foil panels for on-roof and in-roof installation. The roof-mounted panels feature one model which is one half-cell string shorter. Both panel sizes can be interconnected. Thanks to the flexible range of sizes, it is possible to optimise the use of space on almost any roof.

You can find press images here: https://www.aleo-solar.de/pressrelease/intersolar-aleo-zeigt-neue-premium-solarmodule-der-leo-serie/

The LEO family has a suitable panel for practically every application. The full-size flagship LEO panel (1,752 x 1,144 x 40 mm) with 108 half-cells made of monocrystalline silicon with a white back sheet delivers a peak output of 405 watts. The short model with 96 half-cells delivers 360 watts. The LEO black model with a black back sheet and identical dimensions is available for operators who require a consistent and elegant look for their solar plant.

High efficiency for the entire service life

aleo minimises series resistance by using silicon half-cells with ten busbars, thus maximising the efficiency of its premium panels. Instead of flat wires, thin, round wires are used, so that more light enters the cells.
The closely arranged busbars not only increase the efficiency, but also the durability of the panels by providing alternative current paths. aleo thus prevents a major cause of the diminishing output of solar panels over their service life. In addition, the tried-and-tested upright packaging method of the panels prevents damage and defects from occurring during transport.

Maximum solar power harvest with minimum ecological impact

aleo photovoltaic panels incorporate consistent climate protection right from the manufacturing stage. aleo produces its LEO solar panels in Germany. This ensures short transport distances. In addition, 100 percent of the electricity used for panel production comes from renewable energies. „For climate and environmental protection, it is important to achieve the highest possible solar power harvest over the years, whilst using as few resources as possible. That’s why we not only attach great importance to maximum efficiency, but also to the long service life of our panels“, says William Chen, CEO of aleo.

The LEO panels are also larger than their predecessors. This means that more solar power can be installed in less time. Nevertheless, they can withstand high snow loads (up to 8,100 Pa pressure) and storms (3,600 Pa suction). They are also certified for extreme conditions such as salt mist in coastal regions, desert regions or ammonia from animal sheds.

The principle of longevity also applies to the details. For example, aleo uses original MC4 connectors with MULTILAM technology. The spring-loaded contact fins ensure that the losses on the connectors remain low over the entire service life.

The 25-year product and performance guarantee underpins the long service life of LEO panels. In the event of a warranty claim, the company bears the whole cost of replacing the panels.

Diverse options for roof- and building integration

The LEO Sol in-roof variant also comes in all black, with a peak output of 330 watts and a size of 1,169 x 1,607 x 17 mm.
